Pianist/Vocalist Steve Blackburn (Fast Forward/Full Frontal) returns to The Butterfly Club with a new solo show of original songs skewering all things 'hip' in 2018.
The New Hip comprises Steve's recent songs, that are at once dark, twisted, hilarious, and charming. Think of a Tom Waits/Randy Newman/Tom Lehrer love child, but one that has spent the last decade trawling Ebay for second-hand synthesisers.
Steve uses his songs to muse on the many important things in life, such as travelling to Thailand for a nose job; beta-males; Gina Rinehart; piano-playing poodles; digging up Australia; and those wonderful concrete bollards popping up all over Melbourne. The songs are connected by his trademark meanderings that veer from astute and poignant to witty and absurd.
Steve Blackburn is a re-emerging solo artist with an illustrious career in both comedy and music, having worked with household names such as Eric Bana, Magda Szubanski, Gina Riley, Jane Turner, Rod Quantock, and Jimeon, to produce both music and sketches for hallmark Australian comedies including Full Frontal and Fast Forward. The New Hip is Steve's first solo show.
The New Hip runs for an exclusive four-performance season, opening on MONDAY JULY 30th and closing on SATURDAY AUGUST 4th (no Tuesday or Friday shows). Bookings recommended.
