Don't think that just because the Adelaide Cabaret festival has just finished, and OzAsia and the International Guitar Festival are still a few months off, that nothing is happening in Adelaide this winter. There are still plenty of shows to enjoy coming up in 2011.
I've picked out a few shows of particular interest to share with you to see you through the winter months.
Matt Byrne Media has their production of Avenue Q starting in a few short days, it's lead by a strong cast and include two of my favourite local actors, Rohan Watts (a particularly fine Comfort Counselor in MBM's production of Spelling Bee) and Megan Humphries (who blows me away every time I have had the pleasure to see her) as Brian and Christmas Eve. It runs for most of July and you can catch it at both the Arts Theatre and Shedley Theatre, tickets are $30 and down. Visit Matt Byrne Media for more detail.
For the slightly older and female theatre fans out there, you can catch HIT Productions production of Menopause the Musical at Hopgood Theatre. Adult tickets are $39.90. You can find out more at the Country Arts Website.
An absolutely intriguing looking performance headed our way is Ballet Revolucion. Press notes describe it as "...an explosive fusion of Ballet, Contemporary dance and modern hip-hop from the undisputed home of dance, Cuba. It will be a raw, fresh, dynamic Cuban Cocktail of unbridled passion, pure energy and athletic skill. " It's playing at Her Majesty's Theatre 26 - 29 July, bookings through BASS, make sure to check it out!
The Shakespeare fans won't be disappointed; August sees both Othello and Macbeth performed in our fair city. Othello will be playing at the Odeon from 29 July and Macbeth from August 6 at Little Theatre (my favourite space in Adelaide). See the Independent Theatre's website and the Theatre Guild of Adelaide University respectively.
A production I personally can't wait for is The Rep's production of The 39 Steps. Starting August 18 at the Arts Theatre. Visit their website for further details and maybe I'll see some of you there?
The State Theatre Company continues its run of quality productions through July and August with Andrew Bovell's Speaking In Tongues and Anton Chekov's Three Sisters. You can visit the State Theatre Company's website for more details on these and the rest of their exciting season.
These are but a small percentage of what is on offer this winter in Adelaide. For all the shows I wasn't able to cover I suggest you have a look at this list so you don't miss anything!
Stay tuned for more updates next month about what Adelaide can expect for Spring, including details for The Mousetrap and Beauty and The Beast. Also keep an eye out for my upcoming reviews!
Have fun Adelaide!Videos
