Simon Phillips, artistic director of the Melbourne Theater Company, will depart the company after its 2011 season, Variety reports.
Phillips said,"The major goals I had for the company have been reached, we have a theater of our own, new premises for our administration and the highest subscription base in the country...So now it's appropriate that someone with a fresh energy and vision take the company forward into its next decade."
During his time as artistic director, Phillips has aided the Company in acquiring its "first permanent home", Variety reports. He has also brought in many subscribers. The Company currently has 21,000 subscribers; in 1999, it had 12,000.
The Melbourne Theater Company is currently searching for a replacement for Phillips.
