Sam Strong will be joining the Melbourne Theatre Company as Associate Artistic Director of the on the 1 January, 2013.

Strong commented: "It’s been a difficult decision. I count myself very lucky to have been associated with the Griffin Theatre Company for so long. The SBW Stables is the most unique theatre space in Sydney and it is a privilege to create work in it."

"I’m also incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Griffin. The highlights are too numerous, but a few that spring to mind include: launching my previous two seasons, setting up the Griffin Studio residencies, the ‘too big to fail’ ambition of the Festivals of New Writing, the shows I’ve personally directed (including the record breaking The Boys for Sydney Festival pictured above), the crazy Between the Lines events, and simply sharing the theatre and the foyer with the artists and audiences who are kind enough to join us.

"I would like to thank everyone involved in the last few years, from the passionate Griffin board and staff, to all our wonderful artists, to our cherished supporters and audiences.

"But now is not the time for farewells. Quite the contrary. I’m bursting to get back to work at Griffin for the next six months. As well as refining the design of Between Two Waves, I can’t wait to launch a third and final season.

"Most importantly, I’m determined to have even more fun in the next six months than I’ve had in the last couple of years. And that’s a lot."
