Queensland Theatre Company and BLACK SWAN State Theatre Company present Tennessee Williams's classic family drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama that takes audiences into the Deep South and the Pollitt family's web of deceit and desperate pursuit of happiness.

The whole Pollitt family is gathered on their southern plantation for Big Daddy's birthday, and the atmosphere is thick with deceit and desire. Big Daddy is dying, but doesn't know it yet. And his relatives will lie, exaggerate, and ingratiate themselves in order to inherit the family fortune. Which heir will win Big Daddy's favour - Gooper with his pushy wife Mae and their six noisy children, or washed-up athlete Brick and his sassy wife Maggie?

Director Kate Cherry said "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is one of Williams's best plays - the story of a family trying to alternately protect each other from the truth, and make each other face reality is one we can all relate to, and the characters of Maggie and Brick are some of the most riveting roles within Williams's body of work.

"I think that for fans of the movie version there will be some surprises, as the play includes material and dialogue censored from the film. Plus there's the gorgeous set and costumes which will take audiences straight into the gentle glamour and Southern charm of a steamy Mississippi plantation."

Queensland Theatre Company and BLACK SWAN State Theatre Company co-produced Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and the show will have a season in Perth in September.
