QV Cinema Is Back With A Late Summer Program Of Screenings And Special Events

QV Melbourne has announced a new Flick / Fest outdoor cinema season from 14 February- 24 March, with free live music and comedy, filmmaker intros and themed $10 cocktails* from The Prosecco Van**. For the first time, every single screening is dog friendly.

Curated by Gus Berger (George Revival Cinema, Thornbury Picture House) the Flick / Fest season is a selection of everything from cult classics to recent hits, with weekly themes including Animation + Anime, Heroes + Villains, Musicals, Crazy Stupid Love, Oscars and 80s week. In association with Ozflix, the streaming platform dedicated to Australian film, two special screenings will feature introductions from cast and filmmakers.

The summer cinema program launches on Thursday 14 February with a girls-night-out Valentine's Day screening of Bridesmaids, where audience are encouraged to wear their worst bridesmaid's dresses for the chance to win $500 to spend at QV boutiques like Zimmerman and Incu. Before the film, hot ticket all-girl comedy trio Fringe Wives Club will perform a glittery 45-minute musical comedy show, celebrating all things female.

On Friday 22 February, QV Cinema will host the launch of Ozflix's short film program, OzSnax. A curated line up of some of Australia's best short films, QV cinephiles will be treated to a special screening with filmmakers in attendance. OzSnax shorts playing on the night feature Australian screen luminaries such as Guy Pearce, Jack Thompson and Sigrid Thornton.

For International Women's Day on Friday 8 March, a two-hour line-up of fierce female and female identifying music, cabaret and comedy acts will be programmed, followed by a screening of Wonder Woman. Curated by Co-Artistic Director of Black Honey Company Candy Bowers, who recently curated Nocturnal at Melbourne Museum, it's tipped to be the city's go-to event for the day.

"We are really excited about this year's cinema program - we've been able to get some seriously stand-out musical talent and comedy acts and we are thrilled to be supporting Australian film with Ozflix," says QV Melbourne's Regional Property Manager Lisa Fleming.

On Saturday 23 February, pups will parade the red carpet pimped out in their prettiest costumes, before yelping-along to the multi-Oscar nominated animation Isle of Dogs. There's even a $300 a prize pack on offer for the Best Dressed Dog. Plus it's for a worthy cause: all proceeds from ticket sales go to the Lost Dogs Home.

For International Irish Whiskey Day on Sunday 3 March, Ireland's multi award winning Teeling Whiskey will be on offer in the form of bespoke cocktails. Irish whiskey cocktails before a deckchair screening of Stand By Me? It might just be the perfect Sunday session.

On Friday 22 March, there's a special Ozflix Presents screening of raucous all-Aussie comedy The BBQ, starring Shane Jacobson and Magda Szubanski. With an introduction from the cast and director and an OzSnax short before the feature, it's one not to be missed.

Melbourne's only silent cinema is located right in the heart of the city on the Astroturf lawn in QV Square. The intimate open-air deckchair cinema remains one of the city's most affordable outdoor cinemas.
