Queensland Performing Arts Centre's (QPAC) popular chamber music series, Twilight Notes, returns in 2018 with a stellar line-up of musical duos in three special concerts.
Each performance will be held in the intimate reverse mode of QPAC's Concert Hall, a seating arrangement designed for an exquisite musical experience. The Monday evening concerts are 90-minutes without interval, providing an ideal early week escape.
Kicking off the series on 4 June, are virtuosi pianists Lisa Moore and Sonya Lifschitz in Handwork. A powerhouse journey on two grand pianos, the evening will feature the intricate ingenuity of Bach's celebrated Goldberg Variations in a stunning arrangement by Stephen Emerson.
Paired with bold new American music - the mysteriously evocative Handwork by Martin Bresnick and
John Adams' rollicking jazz-infused Hallelujah Junction - this is guaranteed to be an electrifying musical dialogue with explosive sonic resonance.
In Without Boundaries on 27 August, violinist Zoë Black and pianist and award-winning composer Joe Chindamo combine the rigour of classical music with the excitement and urbanity of jazz. The evening's program is a fresh take on chamber music, with works inspired by the likes of Purcell and Chopin, alongside Chindamo's own, as well as a fresh arrangement of Gershwin.
For Wayfaring, the final Twilight Notes concert for the year on 22 October, the divine pairing of the acclaimed Karin Schaupp on guitar and in-demand soloist Umberto Clerici on cello will enchant the audience with a voyage through five centuries of song.
>From the Italian Renaissance to the present day, and the simple beauty of a lullaby to a Jewish reflection on death, this evocative program uses song to travel from the beginning to the end of life and all that comes in between; exploring love, jealousy, family, illness, joys and battles.
