Approaching its sweet sixteenth birthday, Melbourne's own Puppetry of the Penis returns for a season of 'testicular twisters' this Melbourne International Comedy Festival from Saturday 28 March - Sunday 20 April, 2014, at venues across the city.
Off the back of a European tour, this hilarious vaudeville romp is still leaving audiences in stitches the world over. Featuring the belt buckle, the hamburger and the fruit bat, audiences should expect the usual shameless, buck-naked men manipulating their 'instruments', while also utilising the latest CGI and live video projection technology.
Puppeteer Greg "Nacho" Chivers returns to home soil for the Melbourne season after performing these awe-inspiring tricks for almost a decade. Joining the exclusive sect of 20 puppeteers and alumni, Chivers joined the production in 2007 after hearing the performers talk about their 'elasticity' on live radio.
"From the Grand Theatres of the United Kingdom, to the home of house music in Ibiza, to making a mark in Denmark - I've realised one thing: everybody loves a good penis joke," said Greg Chivers.
Remarking the different reactions of people around the globe - from the riotous English, to the reticent applause in Scandinavia - Chivers remarks that the world has embraced this oddly Australian sense of humour, but looks forward to touring in Melbourne. "Melbourne is my hometown and always a touring highlight so looking forward to getting back there."
