Award-winning songwriters, Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen's Fugitive Songs is a 19-song journey. This innovative song cycle, conceived as half-musical/half-hootenanny, spotlights people on the run: a disgruntled Subway sandwich employee, a jilted ex-cheerleader, a pair of Patty Hearst fanatics, a stoner forced to rob a convenience store against his will, and many others. Blending traditional folk music with contemporary pop and gospel, Fugitive Songs offers a new sound for a restless generation.
Directed by Dirk Hoult (We Were There, One in Seven, Oprahfication) and musically directed by Caleb Garfinkel (The Colour Purple, Spring Awakening, The Great Southern Band) this will be the first time Fugitive Songs has been produced on Australian shores.
"I feel incredibly fortunate to be directing Fugitive Songs for Sonder Theatre Co., having never seen a production of the show myself I'm excited that the cast and I get to attack the work with fresh eyes, open minds and open hearts." Says Hoult.Fugitive Songs features a tuneful, genuinely evocative score that explores each characters reasons to run. It will be brought to life by recent WAAPA graduate Bailey Dunnage as Matt, Jessica Papst (Carole King - The Songbook Of Her Life, Great Southern Band) as Alysha, Luisa Scrofani (In The Heights, Motor-Mouth Loves Suck-Face) as Barrett, Lachlan Hamill (Motor- Mouth Loves Suck-Face, The White Mouse) as Gavin, Saxon Gray (Hotel Sorrento, Moonlite) as Joshua and newcomer Anna Wilshire as Karen.
