An immersive dance performance where performers and audiences alike are invited to 'play pretend', world-premiere Pose Band will let loose imaginations at Northcote Town Hall from Tuesday 29 September - Saturday 3 October, 2015 during the 2015 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
With no two shows ever the same, audience members will be invited to interact with performers and construct the performance in real time. Roles are allocated to audience members, scripts are read, physical tasks are assigned and a great game of make believe intertwines with contemporary choreography exploring ideas of authenticity and reproduction.
Inspired by the fakery and whimsy of wax museums, evil twins, internet identities and aura exchange, Pose Band highlights the absurdity around what we take for face value, how easy it is for us to create forgeries and the potential consequences of such fraudulent behaviour.
Dancer-choreographer Rebecca Jensen has an extensive background in contemporary dance, having presented works in Dance Massive and Next Wave Festival (OVERWORLD), MONA FOMA, Ponderosa GER and Texas Women's University (Head Back). Jensen is a co-founder of Deep Soulful Sweats, a fun-filled 'fantasy light yoga', and has recently been involved in works by Jo Lloyd, Sandra Parker, Natalie Abbott, Balletlab, Janine Proost, Ben Speth and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Pose Band is presented by Darebin Arts' Speakeasy program of independent theatre, the home of cutting-edge performing arts north of the Yarra. Presenting a year-round program of new, exciting and dangerous theatre productions from around Australia, Speakeasy seeks to enliven the greater Melbourne area with world-class art and performances.
