Donna Williams will inspire people in Australia as she discusses how she brought in diverse new audience for the Metropolitan Museum of Art by generating partnerships with ethnic media, community associations, chambers of commerce, educational and religious institutions and individuals. Snooks La Vie is known as an interpreter of roots based music, primarily in the genres of blues, soul and gospel as lead vocalist/harmonica player with well-known ensemble The Hiptones. Snooks' Country band, The Locale Motifs, performing new originals inspired by writers such as Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Buddy Miller. The evening will be a journey of Country/Roots flavoured works penned by Snooks for his forthcoming solo album ‘From A Faraway Towne' due for release in late 2009. Snooks says the album is a tribute to the great song writers such as Townes and his long-time experiences performing in his home town, Adelaide: the name The Locale Motifs, alluding to the narrative and messages in his songs. Thursday 25th June,8pm SUMARDI, Internationally acclaimed Indonesian shadow puppeteer
An esteemed teacher of Gamelan music Sumardi is a Master Puppeteer with a distinctly Indonesian performance style. He has extensive experience as a Shadow Puppeteer, appearing regularly on Indonesian television. Sumardi performs in traditional dress while playing traditional instruments with his feet to accompany the Shadow Puppetry. The magic skills and techniques behind these ancient art form brings to life the ancestral spirits said to dwell inside the puppets.
