The Production Company's new staging of the Broadway version of The Pirates of Penzance opens in Hamer Hall on October 30 for a season of six performances only.

The first staging of the Broadway The Pirates of Penzance famously introduced Marina Prior, then a nineteen-year-old Burke Street busker. It also starred Jon English, Simon Gallaher, June Bronhill and David Atkins.

How far musical theatre has come in Australia in thirty years! In those days American creative teams were sent out here to show us how it should be done. In 2013 there is no difficulty now in finding a brilliant Australian creative team to put their own stamp on this milestone. This brand new staging is by the writer and director, Dean Bryant, and choreographer Andrew Hallsworth, composer and musical director Mathew Frank, Oscar Award winning costume designer Tim Chappel with Owen Phillips, Helpmann Award winning set designer Dale Ferguson with lighting by Gavan Swift.

The superb cast includes Adam Murphy as the swashbuckling Pirate King, Claire Lyon (currently performing the role of Christine on a world tour of The Phantom of the Opera) as Mabel, Gareth Keegan as Frederic, and Green Room Award winner, Genevieve Lemon as Ruth.

Did you see The Production Company's The Producers last year? One of our subscribers told us that she woke up the next day still laughing! Our 'Bialystock and Bloom', song and dance man Wayne Scott Kermond and the hilarious Brent Hill, return as Major-General Stanley and the Sergeant of Police. Who says a Policeman's lot is not a happy one?

Artistic Director Ken Mackenzie-Forbes said "Our pirates, police and daughters are as brilliant and as talented as we could dream for. Todd McKenney was in the chorus of Pirates 30 years ago, who knows what future star we'll discover this time?"
