To help audiences navigate and enhance their Next Wave Festival 2014 experience, Next Wave has partnered with Art Processors and Three Thousand to create a new experiential Next Wave App for iPhone and Android devices. Creators of MONA's The O and Melbourne Zoo's I, Animal apps, Art Processors' app includes full program and ticket details, artist interviews, anecdotes and other extras, an interactive 'Free Rides' planner to map the Festival's free attractions and a selection of nearby food and drink hand-picked by Three Thousand.

The founders of Art Processors invented the first mobile interpretive solution designed to replace wall labels and traditional gallery signage. Originally developed for the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania, the technology allows visitors to seamlessly engage with rich content relevant to nearby items of interest. In 2014, Next Wave is partnering with Art Processors to create an app that is more than just a box office (though it will have that too!), but an interactive tool for exploring Next Wave Festival and Melbourne.

Features of the Next Wave Festival 2014 App include:

Program details and 'extras': In addition to complete program information with event details (dates, times, etc.) for all of Next Wave's world-premiere events taking place across Melbourne, the app is also infused with artist-submitted 'extras' such as written anecdotes, audio interviews, behind-the-scenes video content.

Free Rides: The Free Rides section of the app allows users to map a journey through free Festival events based on an appointed location and time frame. With over 50% of the Festival comprising of free events, such as exhibitions, large-scale portraits in public space, talks programming and live art installations, Free Rides is an interactive planning tool for discovering the Festival and Melbourne without opening your wallet.

Eat Drink: Embracing Melbourne's foodie culture, the 'Eat Drink' section includes restaurant, bar and café recommendations based on their proximity to Festival venues. Next Wave is proud to partner with Three Thousand who have hand-picked a selection of Melbourne's best nearby food and drink options so festival-goers can plan their 'Next bite' 'Next beer' or 'Next brew' between Festival events.

Memories: In honour of Next Wave's 30th birthday, Next Wave is calling out for geo-located images, audio and written 'Next Wave memories' from past festivals. These crowd-sourced memories will be mapped throughout the city for app users to discover as they make their way through the festival.

Unfolding in Melbourne from 16 April - 11 May, 2014, Next Wave Festival 2014 is a city-wide, month-long celebration of cutting-edge arts and culture from around Australia and the globe.

Founded in 1984, Next Wave is Australia's leading organisation for emerging artists, presenting highly sought-after development programs that culminate in a curated biennial experimental arts festival.
