Melbourne Theatre Company presents a free public talk with multi award-winning British director Jamie Lloyd on Thursday 15 September.
Facilitated by MTC Literary Director Chris Mead, this special event is a rare opportunity to hear from one of Britain's most sought-after theatre directors about his career and prolific output of intriguing and thrilling productions.
Jamie's recent productions include Doctor Faustus starring Game of Thrones' Kit Harington; The Maids with Laura Carmichael and Orange Is the New Black star Uzo Aduba; Richard III with Martin Freeman; Macbeth with James McAvoy; and Sondheim's Assassins starring Catherine Tate.
Jamie had his big break directing Harold Pinter's The Caretaker at the Sheffield Crucible in 2006. Two years later he won the Olivier award for Outstanding Achievement in an affiliate theatre for The Pride, and in 2012 he launched his own Production Company, The Jamie Lloyd Company, in partnership with The Ambassador Theatre Group.
In 2014, Jamie was named the 20th Most Powerful Person in British Theatre by The Stage in their annual Stage 100 list. He was the youngest director to break into the list since Sam Mendes.
Jamie has also directed work as a part of the Old Vic 24 Hour Plays & Musicals and the Royal Court International Residencies, and was on the panel for the 2015 Kevin Spacey Foundation Theatre Awards. Jamie was Associate Director of the Donmar from 2008 to 2011 and formerly an Associate Artist of Headlong.
