Due to popular demand, Melbourne Theatre Company's season of The Mountaintop has been extended until Wednesday 18 December, adding 3 extra performances to its Australian premiere season.
Audiences have snapped up tickets to see the iconic figure of Dr Martin Luther King Jr portrayed on stage, with many performances already sold out.
Set in room 306 at the shabby Lorraine Motel in Memphis on 3 April 1968, The Mountaintop sees Bert LaBonté transform into the renowned civil rights leader who inspired people across America to fight for equality. Zahra Newman takes on the role of Camae, a sassy yet mysterious young maid who arrives with Dr King's room service, forcing him to confront his mortality and the future of his people.
The Mountaintop plays Arts Centre Melbourne, Fairfax Studio. Season dates: Today, 1 November to 14 December, now extended until 18 December 2013. Opening night: Wednesday 6 November 2013 at 8pm.
