Melbourne Audiences Set to Experience GHOSTS and ONCE

As internationally renowned director Gale Edwards leads MTC's Ghosts into the second week of rehearsals, the Company is excited to learn that after more than 130 years, Ibsen's classic thriller has proved yet again to be a vital and exciting piece of theatre.

Last night London's Almeida Theatre production of Ghosts, adapted and directed by Richard Eyre won three Olivier awards, includingBest Revival. Remarkably, MTC invited Gale Edwards to adapt and direct this rarely-performed work in its 2014 Season. Gale Edwards' adaptation of Ghosts starring Linda Cropper (Mrs Alving) and Philip Quast (Pastor Manders), alongside Pip Edwards (Regina Engstrand),Ben Pfeiffer (Oswald Alving) and Richard Piper (Jacob Engstrand) opens at Southbank Theatre, The Sumner on 22 May 2014. Both Gale Edwards and Philip Quast are Olivier Award winners themselves.

Melbourne Theatre Company is also thrilled to hear that hit musical Once was awarded two Olivier Awards, including the Autograph Sound Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. The award went to collaborators Martin Lowe (compositions and arrangements) and Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová (music and lyrics). Once will open in Melbourne this October, presented by John Frost is association with MTC, led by the original director John Tiffany and starring an all-Australian cast.
