A beacon of Melbourne's performing arts landscape, Malthouse Theatre is spreading its wings internationally, premiering of two of its most wellreceived productions in cross-cultural collaborations with arts organisations in China and India.

Malthouse Theatre's 2014 production The Good Person of Szechuan this week made its Chinese premiere in Beijing. This will be followed by an Indian remount of Marion Potts' 2012 bi-lingual adaptation of Blood Wedding in Bangalore, India in March, 2015.

'Cultural exchange is as much about discovering the things we have in common as our differences', said Marion Potts, Malthouse Theatre Artistic Director. 'These collaborations highlight the former and the satisfaction we collectively derive from a great night in the theatre.

'Whilst in China, we have been treated with enormous respect, professionalism and kindness and I have utmost admiration for our Chinese crew and colleagues. Sitting in the theatre last night was surreal and deeply affirming' she said.

Opening to a sold-out crowd last night in Beijing, Malthouse Theatre's 2014 production The Good Person of Szechuan was well-received by a large and appreciative Chinese audience, who watched the two hour surtitled epic performed by ten Australian artists. At the curtain call, Marion Potts was presented with a plaque to commemorate this significant cultural exchange.
