Melbourne Theatre Company has made getting to the theatre in Melbourne a whole lot easier with the launch of its new website makeadatewithmelbourne.com.au. Bringing together MTC shows, nearby accommodation and dining, travel and other attractions, makeadatewithmelbourne.com.au is a great new way to plan a big night out or weekend in Melbourne.

"MTC is Victoria's flagship theatre company, a leading light in the state's cultural tourism crown. With Victoria Australia's top cultural destination and Melbourne the most popular domestic holiday destination in the country, we want people to think MTC when planning their visit," said MTC Executive Director Virginia Lovett.

"Melbourne is a great theatre city and, like preparing to visit New York and London, 'What shows am I going to see?' ought to sit right alongside 'Where am I going to stay?' and 'Where do I start shopping?' We're onstage all year round, so, if you already come to a show once a year, it's now even easier to come more often. And if you've never made a great theatrical escape, now's the time to grab a friend, go through the five easy steps, and make a date with Melbourne," said Ms Lovett.

MTC's 2014 season offers numerous reasons to see a show in the coming months:

Offspring's Linda Cropper and musical theatre favourite Philip Quast provide the star power for Ghosts, Ibsen's haunting revelation of family secrets, now playing until 21 June

Comedy gets airborne with The Speechmaker by Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner and Rob Sitch and starring Erik Thomson (Packed to the Rafters), Lachy Hulme (The Power Games) and Kat Stewart (Offspring) from 31 May

Australian "lads" Alex Dimitriades, Steve Bisley and Greg Stone team up in the scheming world of real estate salesmen in Glengarry Glen Ross from 5 July

Leading lady Sigrid Thornton stars in the Australian premiere of Lucy Prebble's provocative play The Effect, about the nature of happiness in our over-medicated age from 16 August

Participating hotels include Intercontinental Melbourne, Crown Promenade, Hotel Lindrum Melbourne and Quay West Suites. Restaurants that are nearby and used to getting theatre patrons to the show on time include The Deck, Script Bar and Bistro, Blondie and Saké Restaurant and Bar. makeadate also links with Public Transport Victoria's Journey Planner, together with train, bus and tram timetables.

To enable visitors to maximise their time in Melbourne, makeadate links with a changing list of cultural attractions, such as NEW14 at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Dreamworks Animation - The Exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Aztecs at Melbourne Museum, Italian Masterpieces at the National Gallery of Victoria: International and to even more on the City of Melbourne's That's Melbourne website.
