Aggrieved by the endlessly contemptible treatment of refugees and asylum seekers in offshore detention, it was the belief in her fellow Australians and their generosity of spirit that launched Jessica Hackett on an epic journey. 17,000 signatures, 710 kilometres, 35 days, 2 blisters, and one Melbourne high school teacher hand delivering her petition to Canberra in the height of summer.
