Following sell-out shows in their 2013 Theatresports season, Impro Melbourne presents the return of the cult international show, Gorilla Theatre!
Performing every Sunday from 18th August to 15th September, at The Space, Prahran, Gorilla TheatreTM sees five directors explore a chosen theme each over the course of the show, in any manner they wish, and using their fellow directors as performers. After each scene the audience vote to declare it a success or a failure, with a penalty for scenes that don't please. Will their stage fellows play nice?!
Directed by veteran Impro Melbourne director and improviser, Mark Gambino, Gorilla Theatre will cross the divide between improvised comedy and drama without missing a heartbeat.
Impro Melbourne regulars include Australia's hottest comedy talent: Jason Geary (National TheatresportsTM Champion 2010), Lliam Amor (National TheatresportsTM Champion 2009), Rik Brown (National TheatresportsTM Champion 2011), Anna Renzenbrink (National TheatresportsTM Champion 2011), Jimmy James Eaton (National Improvisor Best and Fairest 2009) and Amanda Buckley (Sydney TheatresportsTM Cranston Cup Champion 2010).
Impro Melbourne's annual performance calendar includes Late Night Impro and Celebrity TheatresportsTM, at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as a yearly season of TheatresportsTM. Prominent members have gone on to create other improvised theatre companies in Melbourne, such as Secret Impro Theatre, The Impro Box and Exploding Heads Impro.
