The first episode of The Legend of Gavin Tanner, a brand new, 5-part Australian comedy series has been released on YouTube today here!
Created by, written by and starring Matt Lovkis, directed by Henry Inglis and produced by Lauren Elliott, the series follows the misadventures of Gavin Tanner, a West Coast Eagles-loving, weed-dealing big mouth who is utterly convinced he's the biggest legend in Balladeen. The problem is, no-one else agrees.
Gavin's dodgy plans, schemes and boasts are invariably exposed and brought crashing down, causing mayhem for his girlfriend Trish, played by Emily Rose Brennan (Underbelly: Razor), apprentice Damo Liam Graham, Trish's mum, Lynette played by Nicola Bartlett (Little Sparrows), Gavin's best mate Rabbit, played by Vito de Francesco and Rabbit's girlfriend, Angel played by Tegan Mulvany, as well as the greater community.
The character of Gavin Tanner has been alive online and interacting with his audience daily since the release of his first ever instructional video, How To Deal Weed in 2010. After the release of his latest promo video last week, Gavin Tanner's Friend Request, he has received over 2000 new friend requests from all over the world. www.facebook.com/gavintanner.awesum (#gavintanner).
Touted as Chopper meets Kath & Kim, The Legend of Gavin Tanner was made possible by Western Australia's $70,000 HyperLink production fund, an initiative of the Film & Television Institute (FTI) and ScreenWest, designed to assist Western Australian filmmaking teams to develop their production, storytelling, financial and project management skills to professional industry standards. Mad Kids, founded by Lovkis, Inglis and Elliott is a digital, film and television production company based in Perth, Western Australia. The company's mission is to produce hilarious, entertaining, laugh-out-loud, remarkable, eye-catching, fresh, obscene, irreverent and surprising content.
Mad Kids were the only West Australian team out of 25 Australian teams commissioned by the ABC for Fresh Blood, an ABC Entertainment TV and Screen Australia initiative designed to discover the next generation of Australian comedy performers and producers. Mad Kids' three-part comedy series The Write Stuff with Noel and Carl Pennyman will debut on ABC iview in 2014.
Lovkis is also the Series Writer for Channel Nine's Big Brother, following writing roles on Beauty & the Geek and Balls of Steel. (2012), Henry & Aaron's ABC2 Christmas Special (2013) and viral sensation Set Yourself Free which achieved unprecedented international media attention and over 17 million YouTube hits in February this year.
