Tickets are selling fast for best-selling children's author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler's much-loved tale The Gruffalo (Macmillan Children's Books) live on stage at Arts Centre Melbourne's Playhouse from 15 - 26 November 2017. UK theatre company Tall Stories and Australia's CDP Theatre Producers - the team behind the stage adaptations - Room on the Broom and The Gruffalo's Child - will bring to life the popular and award-winning book in a colourful play full of songs, laughs and fun for children aged three and up, and their adults.
Having sold more than 13.5 million copies worldwide, The Gruffalo book has fast become a family favourite in households across Australia. The success led to a film adaptation and UK adventure park ride. There is also a Gruffalo trail in the Forest of Dean, England.
Conceived in 1999 and premiering in 2001, Tall Stories' magical, musical adaptation of the award-winning picture book has toured the UK, Europe, North America and Asia- including runs in London's West End and on Broadway.
Searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad snake. Mouse can scare hungry animals away with tall stories of the terrifying Gruffalo, but what happens when she comes face to face with the very creature she imagined?
"The Gruffalo is a contemporary children's classic. This fabulous little David and Goliath tale is the best combination of joyous and hilarious and a teensy bit scary. Come and join us in the Deep Dark Wood where snakes salsa, owls march and foxes get out-foxed." says Liesel Badorrek (Australian/NZ Associate Director)
