Tim Freedman inhabits the skin of legendary hard-living American recording artist Harry Nilsson in Everybody's Talkin' 'bout me at Arts Centre Melbourne.

With his trademark beard, cap and unmistakable accent, Freedman becomes the eccentric good-time rapscallion, depicting the rise and fall of one of the greatest singers and cleverest songwriters of all time.

Known best for his Grammy-award winning songs Everybody's Talkin' and Without You, Nilsson was a prolific musical figure in the 60s and 70s. While Nilsson utilised elements of both pop and rock in his songs, his music at its heart belonged fully to neither. His initial series of albums in the 1960s made him a personal favourite of many, including the Beatles.

Tim Freedman, front man of The Whitlams, is one of Australia's most accomplished contemporary songwriters. His lyrics have been described as having a "charming cynicism", enhanced by an instinct for a poignant melody. Like Nilsson, his songs take sharp turns from the heart breaking to the whimsical and like Nilsson, his songs work wonderfully - best, even - with just piano and vocal.

Freedman's interpretation of Nilsson classics is accompanied by anecdotes of each song. The stories of how they fit into Nilsson's reckless life are the perfect complement to the music and provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of his works.

This event is sure to sell out. Don't miss out on talkin' 'bout Tim Freedman's brilliant work as Harry Nilsson.
