Following their postponement due to an illness in the cast, the Bakehouse Theatre have released revised dates for EDUCATING RITA, which will now play Thursday May 10 & Friday May 11 (Previews), Saturday May 12 (Opening Night) and then May 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26.
EDUCATING RITA by Willy Russell is a comedy about life, love and education. This production directed by Peter Green will feature Roger Newcombe and Ruth Fallon.
Frank Bryant is a jaded, world weary professor of literature. Rita is his newest student. She crashes into Frank’s drink- sodden ivory tower asking the questions Frank never asked himself.
Rita wants an education, although she has no idea what it is that she’s asking. She is a breath of fresh air for Frank who begins to care about someone for the first time since his wife left him, although he knows that the tension in the room stems only from himself.
“Educating Rita” has wit, heart and moments of piercing truth. It is about something that matters – the deep hunger for knowledge and the quest for an identity. Buried strengths get unearthed. Boundaries get tip-toed. Roles get reversed. Who will end up teaching whom?
In this funny, thought provoking gem of live theatre, each will end up teaching the other. Whether they both live happily ever after is not the point. Whether their lives are enlarged is.
Thursday 10th and Friday 11th Previews will all be $7 tickets. and on Opening Night Saturday 12th all tickets will be $18. These specials are for ON-LINE BOOKINGS only at www.bakehousetheatre.com
