At a Media Call at Trackdown Studios in Sydney, the NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, the Hon Stuart Ayres MP made the official announcement that the Australian premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will be staged at Sydney's Lyric Theatre, a "major coup for NSW". Australian Producer, Michael Cassel is "very excited to bring this sensational show to Australian shores" as whilst Carole King may be from Brooklyn New York, "her music is loved the world over and her story is universal".
Whilst the casting search for Australia's Carole King starts tomorrow, Rebecca LaChance, from the American production (U/S to Jessie Mueller in Title Role and Featured Ensemble in Original Broadway Cast and Title Role in First National US tour in Rochester NY) was flown in to give the gathered guests and media a taste of what we can expect next September.
In addition to the award winning (7 Tony Awards, 8 Olivier Awards and a Grammy Award) musical coming to Sydney, it was also announced that BEAUTIFUL will be the first production to open in the Sydney Lyric auditorium after its $11.5 million transformational refurbishment.
The waitlist for tickets is now open at www.beautifulmusical.com.au with tickets to go on sale in February 2017.
