On Friday June 29, electronic music creation and performance will come together before your eyes in Resonate, a free live electronic music event showcasing the creativity of Melbourne's Ableton User Group, presented by the Australian Music Vault.
Over four hours, eight of Melbourne's most exciting electronic music producers and performers will perform live amongst their audience, with the event set up inviting you to look over their shoulders as they bring their compositions to life using live controllerism, playing, processing, sound making and mangling. The sets will run back-to-back with non-stop music coming from the unique pop up mezzanine stage that the audience can explore.
The eight featured emerging Melbourne artists include: Alpha Loopy; Arrom; Field Waves; Nhan Synthesis; Spectoral; Toshero; Twofold Vision and ViVien. For more information on these artists click here. The event is being curated by Ben Murphy, a Melbourne based electronic music maker, known as solo artist "Ben at Work", an educator and community facilitator.
The Ableton User Group Melbourne is a community of producers, musicians and like-minded creatives who use Ableton's software and hardware, to create and perform. Meeting monthly at Arts Centre Melbourne's creative technology hub The Channel since 2012, the group is coordinated by volunteer facilitators and brings people together to share and learn all about aspects of electronic music creation and the creative process. The meetups have fostered a strong community of music makers of all levels of experience. At the 2017 Loop conference in Berlin, the Albeton User Group Melbourne was identified as the strongest and most successful organisation of its kind in the world.
"The Ableton User Group Melbourne are one of the strongest communities of music producers, artists, musicians and sound designers in the world. We're excited to be presenting a selection of these artists in a setting that invites the audience to get behind the scenes of live electronic music and hopefully experience it in a whole new way", David Rogers, Program Manager, Creative Learning, Arts Centre Melbourne.
The 2018 Resonate event will be the third public performance by the community at Arts Centre Melbourne. It was first presented on the forecourt of the Theatres Building in 2014 and in 2016 it was presented on the St Kilda Road terrace, outside The Channel.
The Australian Music Vault is open daily and features a free permanent exhibition, online and interactive experiences and an extensive learning program, charting the story of contemporary Australian music from the 1950s until today. It showcases the iconic people, events and places that define Australian music in a purpose-built exhibition space within Arts Centre Melbourne's Theatres Building. The exhibition has already welcomed over 350,000 people since it opened in December 2017. Ableton is a supporting partner of the Australian Music Vault.
Resonate takes place to support Melbourne's emerging electronic artists, further cementing Melbourne as a hugely important city of the global electronic music landscape. A unique and exciting free event not to be missed.
