The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra presents Noël! Noël! 2011 at CITY RECITAL HALL, SYDNEY & churches in CREMORNE, NEWCASTLE, PADDINGTON, PARRAMATTA, WOLLONGONG & for the first time in NEWTOWN.

"As the festive season draws near, we start to think of our favourite end-of-year rituals," says Paul Dyer, the Brandenburg's Artistic Director, "and for many Sydneysiders, this includes our annual Noël! Noël! concert."

"As a child, my family ritual was to spend Christmas at the beach. It was a beautiful oasis of sights and sounds: bright skies, board shorts and colourful beach umbrellas, delicious salads and sweets, and the luxury to indulge yourself in the sun and surf. I remember feeling completely energised and happy."

"I want people to have a sense of this at our Noël! Noël! concerts. I want audience members who have become part of our Christmas ritual to walk out of the concerts feeling treated."

"At Noël! Noël! we perform traditional carols and luscious baroque music, and then add the flavours the Brandenburg. It's like having a swig of Spanish wine with some of Mum's delicious Christmas Cake, or meditating to the rhythmic and percussive sounds of the Australian surf. Indulging your senses is all part of the Brandenburg Christmas experience."

"Noël! Noël! is a dash of baroque, a splash of European and Latin American rhythms, some medieval chant and much loved carols," says Paul of the unique mix which blends the ancient with the modern."

"Sacred, joyous and spectacular choral works are brought to life by the Brandenburg Choir accompanied on period instruments and the classical saxophone of Christina Leonard. There is always something to make you swoon and something to make you smile. It is definitely a feel good concert not to be missed!."

The New ABC Classics CD, A BRANDENBURG CHRISTMAS is released on 18 November.

It is a Live recording of the 2010 Noël! Noël! concert at the City Recital Hall Angel Place.
"A Brandenburg Christmas is about mixing up the ancient and the modern. We take our glorious Choir, the shining star of this recording, and create a Brandenburg sound for an Australian summer. Only at a Brandenburg Christmas do you get Mozart (Laudate Dominum) and Billy Joel (Lullaby - Goodnight, My Angel). Only at a Brandenburg Christmas do you hear the sublime sound of a Benedictine abbess (O Ecclesia) and a sultry chanteuse (Little Drummer Boy). There are new Christmas flavours, improvisations, European folk rhythms, and much loved carols," says Paul Dyer.

The CD booklet includes recipes for an Australian Christmas feast from MAGGIE BEER, KYLIE KWONG, LYNDEY MILAN, DAMIEN PIGNOLET and JASON ROBERTS, as well as PAUL DYER's family Christmas Cake recipe.
