Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton's children's book The 13-Storey Treehouse will come to life on stage from Saturday 5 - Sunday 13 April, 2014 at Arts Centre Melbourne's Playhouse. Following sell-out and return seasons at the Sydney Opera House, The 13-Storey Treehouse will turn Melbourne upside down next April school holidays with a world of 3D machines, monster mermaids and - most worryingly - late homework!

Continuing the book's hilarious meta-narrative, in which author Andy and illustrator Terry struggle to write the book that eventually becomes The 13-Storey Treehouse, the michievous pair (played by Luke Joslin and Mark Owen-Taylor) find themselves on stage in front of an audience - only they haven't written the play. With a swag of ingenious props and their helpful stage manager, Andy, Luke and the audience will help create the play's imaginative world of lemonade fountains, sea monkey infestations and giant gorillas.

Popular children's author Andy Griffiths has entertained kids across Australia with his zany worlds of make-believe, including the bestselling Just! series, which was adapted into animated TV show What's With Andy? (2001 - 2007), and the Bum series, featuring hilarious titles such as The Day My Bum Went Psycho. Alongside his friend and illustrator Terry Denton, the pair have collaborated on almost fifteen children's books. Denton has also illustrated alongside other bestselling Australian authors, including Paul Jennings, Mem Fox and Natalie Jane Prior.

Achieving the near-impossible, award-winning playwright Richard Tulloch has brought Andy and Terry's nutty adventures to the stage in an hour-long show of commotion and laughter. Adapted from the first of three books in the Treehouse series and directed by Julian Louis, The 13-Storey Treehouse is a great introduction to Andy and Terry's Treehouse world; a place limited only by your imagination.

The 13-Storey Treehouse is a feature of the 2014 Families & Youth program at Arts Centre Melbourne. With an international selection of the world's leading innovators in children's entertainment and home-grown creations by Australia's favourite family-friendly theatre companies, Arts Centre Melbourne's year-round Families and Youth program is designed to offer enriching performing arts experiences for audiences of all ages.
