Children are invited to contribute to a new dance work especially for kids inspired by kids when Melbourne artist Nat Cursio presents Loop at Arts Centre Melbourne's Playhouse Rehearsal Room on 29 September and 1 October.

As part of an Arts Centre Melbourne artist-in-residence project, choreographer Nat Cursio will complete and present Loop, which is being created through a series of workshops, including two upcoming at Arts Centre Melbourne on 25 & 26 September where children aged 2-8 years are guided to use their imaginative powers through dance.

Inspired by the children's dancing, Cursio and her team of four professional dancers will then remain in residence at Arts Centre Melbourne to put the finishing choreographic touches on this quirky, joyful and sensory performance, bringing the children's intuitive movements to life by using them as the key building blocks for the piece.

Loop is a performance in three acts and in the third act, children will be invited to take to the floor and become an integral part of the performance. The line between dancer and audience is gradually dissolved as the children have the opportunity to express and explore their bodies, the music and the space.

Cursio said Loop would give children the space to express and explore movement and music.

"Loop gathers and celebrates the vitality that children give us because they operate in the now. This work, for children and accompanying adults, is for noticing, for listening, for connecting, for feeling, for moving, for being. For those who like to move their bodies, on the inside and out,' Cursio said.

Cursio creates choreographies, curated programs and artistic development platforms under the umbrella Nat Cursio Co. Her choreographic work has been presented across Asia and Australia. Her most recent work Tiny Slopes, a performance about learning to skateboard, featuring four professional dancers and four skateboarding tweens, was presented as part of Dance Massive 2017.

Arts Centre Melbourne is committed to nurturing Melbourne artists in the creation of new, innovative work for family audiences. Loop is presented as part of Arts Centre Melbourne's Winter/ Spring Families and Arts Learning programs.

Arts Centre Melbourne's year-round Families program was launched in August 2009 and has grown in reputation to become a highly respected program both in Melbourne and nationally. Featuring free events, intimate and large-scale theatre from some of the world's most respected companies and a diverse range of interactive workshops, the program is robust and growing in size, scale and scope.
