Following senior appointments with a number of leading cultural organisations, most recently as Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Auckland Arts Festival, David Malacari has returned to Adelaide to fill the position of Manager of Programs at Adelaide Festival Centre.

David will fill the role made vacant by the recent appointment of Adelaide Festival Centre Associate Director and Programming Manager, Karen Bryant, to the position of CEO at Adelaide Festival.  David has been appointed in an interim capacity until the position is advertised later in the year.

David brings a wealth of experience in the arts, across various roles, to the position.

He is highly regarded internationally for having grown Auckland Arts Festival into an event with a reputation for presenting exciting program from Asia and the Pacific Rim and for its role in commissioning new work and spearheading a strategy for the festival to be recognised as a major contributor to Auckland’s reputation as a culturally enriched and dynamic city.

He has previously directed festivals of Australian Arts in London and India and is respected in Adelaide for his role as founding General Manager of Windmill Performing Arts and many years as Program Manager at the Adelaide Festival prior to that.

In his most recent role as Consultant Executive Producer for The Commonwealth Festival 2011 (CHOGM) in Perth, David was responsible for delivery of a largely free event which was conceived as a way for the people of Perth to connect with The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and to re-engage with The Commonwealth.

Chief Executive Officer and Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival Centre, Douglas Gautier said David’s CV boasted an impressive string of pivotal roles with arts organisations so he was a natural choice for the Adelaide Festival Centre.

“David joins our passionate Programming team bringing a breadth of experience leading festivals and arts organisations. It’s a real coup to have someone of David’s calibre on board,” Douglas said.

“I am very excited to be back in Adelaide.  I look forward to the contribution I can make to the continuing growth of the Festival Centre’s reputation as cultural leader in Adelaide, its role as one of the nation’s most significant cultural centres, and its position as an iconic venue for Adelaide’s communities,”  said David.
