The VORTEX hosts Earth Day, a unique event in celebration of our 35th Coral Season, with special guests the Guy Forsyth Band.
5-7 p.m. - Earth Day Activities
7-10 p.m. - The Guy Forsyth Band
Earth Day is an annual celebration honoring the environmental movement and raising awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations. The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970. With the devastating impacts of Climate Change, it is essential that we continue to raise awareness and learn new tools to support our natural environment.
As the highlight of the event, we are thrilled to welcome Guy Forsyth back to The VORTEX to celebrate Earth Day. Guy has been connected with The VORTEX since he moved to Austin in 1990. He played open mics at The VORTEX Performance Café on Ben White Blvd. and even acted there in Killers by Barry Pineo. He brought the Asylum Street Spankers to open the new venue on Manor Road in 1994. An Austin favorite in numerous bands and clubs, Guy has toured the US and Europe and has been the opening act for Ray Charles, Robert Cray, Dr. John, B.B. King, Jimmie Vaughan, and Lucinda Williams.
EARTH DAY is funded and supported in part by VORTEX Repertory Company, Six Square Austin’s Black Cultural District, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. We are proud members of ATX Theatre.
