ZACH Theatre brings you IN THE NEXT ROOM OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY playing today, January 29-Feburary 23, 2014 on stage at the Topfer Theatre. A stimulating, funny and provocative new Broadway hit set in a prim upper class Victorian home, where a gentleman doctor has invented an extraordinary and mysterious device for treating "hysteria." His wife overhears mystifying sounds emanating in the next room and sees patients leaving in blissful health. This smart comedy ponders marriage and intimacy, and what it truly means to find connection. Contains adult situations and brief nudity.

"This kind of female perspective isn't communicated on film or on stage, particularly when it's around intimacy. Generally, scenes around love and relationships are written and directed by men. The decisions around what to show, and how to show it, even down to the camera angles, are made by and for men. This show flips that equation," says ZACH Producing Artistic Director, Dave Steakley. "Sarah Ruhl's writing is surprisingly funny, refreshing, and ultimately so moving. The journey of this play is so joyous and lighthearted, and then suddenly like a clearing in the forest, Ruhl creates a tender ending that is one of the most beautiful expressions of love I've ever seen. The doctor's wife, played by Jill Blackwood, is trying to erase the boundaries to intimacy between she and her husband; Ruhl in a theatrical flourish makes the boundaries of their confining home disappear to create a new space where this couple can expand their limitless power of true intimacy and the capacity of their hearts."

IN THE NEXT ROOM features Michelle Alexander as "Elizabeth," Jill Blackwood as "Mrs. Catherine Givings," Amy Downing as "Mrs. Sabrina Daldry," Michael Ferstenfeld as "Mr. Daldry," Craig Mungavin as "Dr. Givings," Matthew Redden as "Mr. Leo Irving" and Irene White as "Annie." IN THE NEXT ROOM is written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by SARAH RASMUSSEN.
