ZACH Theatre kicks off the new year with Peter and the Starcatcher on January 29, 2015. The five-time Tony Award-winning play runs until March 1, 2015 at the Topfer Theatre. The play is written by Rick Elise and based upon the novel of the same name by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. ZACH Theatre will have Director Michael Baron, Artistic Director of Oklahoma City's Lyric Theatre, back for his first time since directing the critically acclaimed Spring Awakening here in 2011.
This swashbuckling pirate tale tells what happened before a young orphan became the boy who never grew up-the boy we know as Peter Pan. In an evening of madcap fun, a dozen brilliant actors play more than 100 unforgettable characters from James M. Barrie's book Peter Pan, using their enormous talent, ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination.
"Peter and the Starcatcher employs imaginative, physical storytelling that is so delightful that you find yourself feeling like a kid with each adventurous discovery," said Dave Steakley, ZACH Theatre Producing Artistic Director. "We have a terrific cast to tell this story, a mix of some of Austin's favorite actors like Martin Burke, Matthew Redden, and Jamie Goodwin with wonderful young actors from the Texas State University and University of Texas theatre programs who play the Lost Boys. I love a great story like this one that crackles with so much humor throughout, and has a lot of heart in its affection for Peter Pan."
Peter and the Starcatcher features Josean Rodriguezas Peter; Sarah Burke as Molly; Jimmy Moore as Black Stache the pirate; David Jarrott as Alf; Mario Rodriguez as Slank; Jamie Goodwin as Lord Aster; Luke Linsteadt as Prentiss; Allen Robertson as Captain Robert Falcon Scott; Martin Burke as Bumbrake; Tony Minor as Smee; Nicholas Garza as Ted; and Matthew Redden in the roles of Sanchez, Grempkin, and Mack.
Tickets for Peter and the Starcatcher start at $25 and are available online at http://www.zachtheatre.org, by phone at 512-476-0541 ext. 1, or in person at the ZACH Theatre Box Office, in the Topfer Theatre, 202 South Lamar Blvd. (corner of Riverside Drive and South Lamar Blvd.) Monday through Saturday, 12 noon - 7 pm.
