Whatsinthemirror? will present Rose University: First Semester, a limited performance of the new developmental piece.
Written by our Executive Director/Founder Tarik Daniels, the play explores the lives of five black students at a HBCU in Oklahoma who are descendants of Greenwood, Oklahoma, which was the most successful black community in Americas history also known as Black Wall street.
Still living through the aftermath of their families losing everything in Tulsa Riot of 1921, which is documented as one of the most racial afflicted massacres to ever occur, these students are exploring self-identity while a female black student has gone missing on campus. This play brings awareness to the epidemic of the 64,000 missing black women in the this country that has disappeared and hasn't gotten any mainstream attention, as well as try to bring a fresh look on ending the stigma of mental health in our communities.
Directed by Delante' G. Keys, the production will star Ashley Hazzard, Netonya Clayton, Keturah Branch, Kendall Sanchez, Josua Sanchez and Chris Russell.
Performances are set for Friday & Saturday, July 21 & 22, at 8:00pm at Santa Cruz Theatre, 1805 East 7th Street, Austin, TX. Following the limited performance will be a panel discussion, "The State of Black Feminism."
