Theatre Uncovered to Present BARE: A Pop Opera Image

Theatre Uncovered returns with its third annual production, after producing Heathers The Musical in 2016 and Spring Awakening in 2017. BARE, by Jon Hartmere Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo, explores the relationships between a group of catholic high school students who are struggling to feel heard by church leaders and are desperate to hear the voice of God over their individual struggles. At the center of the story are Peter Simonds (played by Andrew Sabonis-Chafee) and Jason McConnell (played by Nicholas Carlin), two students who secretly are engaged in a on-and-off relationship. Both struggle to reconcile their love for eachother with their belief that being gay might be sinful.

Meanwhile, Ivy Robinson (played by Kelsey Ward), a young girl who is constantly shamed by her classmates for her promiscuity, vies for romantic attention from Jason. As events unfurl, teen angst, love triangles, and drug use leads to the unraveling of our protagonists, as well as an explosive ending. Joining the cast are Joey Tamayo (Matthew Lloyd), Hannah Gilmore (Nadia Robinson), Caroline May (Lucas Carter), Breshena Crosby (Sister Chantelle), Lauren Weber (Claire), William Scheel (Priest), Kameron Alston (Alan Jones), Maddie Barnette (Tanya Garrett), Caroline Bowman (Dianne Lee), Griffin DeClaire (Anthony Rodriguez), Kendall Duffina (Rory Adams), Daniel Merry (Zack Rogers) and Reagan Seiler (Kyra Stevens).

"I believe that this is a story that still very much needs to be told," said director Patrick Hill. "This musical is hardly blasphemous or irreligious. For lack of a better term, this story 'bares' the souls of many young LGBTQ+ people who grow up in the church desperately searching for love and acceptance. This is the story of what can happen when vulnerable people find compassion in the arms of God, but rejection and condemnation at the hands of the church."
