Extraordinary singer songwriter Brandi Carlile has announced an Austin show on the second leg of her "Give Up the Ghost Traveling Show" which will begin January 12 in Boise, Idaho and includes more than 40 cities across the country. Texas Performing Arts at the University of Texas at Austin welcomes Brandi Carlile and her Give Up The Ghost Traveling Show to Hogg Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Tickets go on sale at noon on Friday, November 6 at authorized ticket outlets, which include the Bass Concert Hall Box Office, most H-E-B stores and all Texas Box Office outlets, online at www.TexasPerformingArts.org, or by calling (512) 477-6060 or (800) 982-BEVO.
The first leg of the "Give Up the Ghost Traveling Show" was virtually sold out and included legendary shows at The Beacon in New York and The Wiltern in Los Angeles.
After debuting with a self-titled album in 2005, the Washington State-bred Carlile saw her fanbase mushroom with her sophomore disc, The Story. Among the growing legion of Carlile fans is Elton John. "Brandi has an amazing voice," he says. "She's a great songwriter and has a tremendous career ahead of her." Proudly, Carlile says that John-who duets with her on the song "Caroline"-played a key a role in her evolution as an artist: "When I was 11, I started listening to country and western music and I was totally immersed in that Grand Ole Opry culture, wherein the entertainers are usually not the ones who wrote the music. But when I discovered Elton John, I realized that performers could write and perform their own songs, and I immediately went out and got a keyboard, and started writing." She was too starstruck to tell him that when they recorded together. "I was just overwhelmed by the years, and by the influence that somebody can have on another person's life without even knowing it."
Brandi Carlile's new album, Give Up the Ghost, was released on October 6 on Columbia Records and has been met with enormous critical acclaim. Paste Magazine crowned her "the best voice in indie rock," and Billboard Magazine said Carlile "channels heartache, fear, nostalgia and joy in nearly the same breath, creating a vivid pastiche of alt-folk pop." Entertainment Weekly said "she commands the spotlight with ease throughout, thanks in large part to her distinctive throaty falsetto – even making Elton John seem like a sideman when he shows up for a duet."
$1 from every ticket sold for the "Give Up the Ghost Traveling Show" will go to benefit Carlile's Looking Out Foundation. For more information about the performer, visit www.BrandiCarlile.com.
