he TexARTS Teen Musical Theatre Academy will present the brand new Broadway musical Bring It On at the Kam & James Morris Theatre, April 11 - 19.
Bitingly relevant and sprinkled with sass, Bring It On: The Musical, inspired by the Bring It On film, takes the audience on a high-flying journey filled with the complexities of friendship, jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness. Bring It On: The Musical tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme cheerleading competition.
The musical comedy made its Broadway debut on August 1, 2012 at the St. James Theatre. The production earned Tony nominations for Best Musical and Best Choreography, and The New York Times called it, "Impossible to resist!"
Bring It On has music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), music by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, If/Then) and lyrics by Kitt's High Fidelity collaborator Amanda Green (Hands on a Hardbody). All three collaborated on the score for the musical.
The cast features 23 Lake Travis area teens who all train at the TexARTS Academy of the Performing and Visual Arts.
Bring It On is directed by M. Scott Tatum and music directed by John Vander Gheynst. Mr. Tatum is known by Austin audiences for directing the award-winning productions ofThe Sound of Music, Oklahoma, and Little Shop of Horrors at Zilker Summer Musicals.
Bring It On: The Musical runs April 11 and 18 at 1 and 6 p.m. and April 12 and 19 at 1 p.m. at TexArts' Kam and James Morris Theatre. Tickets cost $15.00 and are available at tex-arts.org or by calling the box office at 512-852-9079 x101.
