ZACH Theatre-Austin's Theatre and Texas' longest running theatre, presents the next production of the 2013-14 Family Series, THE CAT IN THE HAT. ZACH Theatre brings the classic children's book THE CAT IN THE HAT to life in a wild ride of physical comedy, playing tonight, February 21 through May 3, 2014, on the intimate Kleberg Stage. In partnership with Art on 5th, original artwork by Theodor Seuss Geisel - Dr. Seuss, will be on display at ZACH Theatre for the duration of the show.

Sally and her brother are stuck home in the rain, when a Cat comes knocking at the windowpane! But the Cat has brought friends, Thing One and Thing Two, who make messes and problems and oh, what to do?! Mischief and mayhem and laughter galore, bring the kids-they'll clamor for more!

"The Cat In The Hat represents children's theatre at its very best. It's physical, sharp, stylized, and enjoyable for audiences of all ages. More than 10,000 students will come see this show, many from low-income schools seeing theatre for the very first time" says Nat Miller, Educational Director at ZACH Theatre. "Our production brings this classic book to life while promoting literacy. We are also partnering with Art on 5th to hang original Dr. Seuss art work in our lobby, creating a fully immersive experience."

Directed by Nat Miller, the cast features Matthew Fitzgerald as "The Cat," Taylor Davis as "Sally," Clint Harris as "The Brother," CasSadie Petersen as "Fish," Sarah Vasilas as "Thing 1/Kitten," and Alessandra Manon as "Thing 2/Kitten." The production features Lighting Design by Matthew Webb, Sound Design by Allison Ebling, Costume Supervision by Christina Montgomery and Technical Direction by Dennis J. Reilly. THE CAT IN THE HAT is based on the book by Dr. Seuss and adapted by Katie Mitchell. This play was originally produced at The National Theatre of Great Britain.

ZACH Theatre is Austin's leading professional producing theatre, employing more than 600 actors, musicians and designers annually. Founded in 1932, ZACH is the longest running theatre company in Texas, and serves 95,000 adults and youth every year. ZACH creates its own nationally recognized plays and musicals that ignite the imagination, lift the spirit and engage the community under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Dave Steakley and Managing Director Elisbeth Challener. Now in its 80th year, ZACH continues to expand and engage with Austin, adding the new 420-seat, 32,000-square-foot Topfer Theatre to its performing arts campus, nearly doubling ZACH's capacity while retaining its hallmark intimate theatre-going experience.

Austin's largest contemporary gallery is proud of its eclectic collection of artists and its museum-like setting. As the only commercial gallery ever voted "Best in Austin," and multiple times at that, Austinites and visitors alike continue to applaud the colorful and diverse gathering of local, Texas, national and International Artists. Gallery owner Joe Sigel opened the gallery in 1998, realizing the need for a contemporary gallery in Austin and he introduced a collection of works by Picasso, Andy Warhol and others. Since then the gallery has evolved along with Austin's constantly changing tastes, and now carries one of the largest collections of the Secret Art of Dr. Seuss in the country.
