Who knew in 1994 that a dance number performed during a seven minute intermission during the Eurovision song contest would expand into a thrilling spectacle of dance that would not only survive the test of time, but remain so beloved by so many? Beyond a pandemic, political unrest, racial tension, a couple of wars, RIVERDANCE still shines it's timeless light and energy on audiences around the world.

After what was a rather dreary and sad week, I had the seamless experience and divine pleasure of attending RIVERDANCE's 25th anniversary tour. It was delightful. The entire production was absolute perfection, and every aspect of the show was executed with beauty and precision.

Effortlessly blending traditional Irish music with modern elements, RIVERDANCE's Signature Sound and style is both timeless and contemporary. The band, comprised of Cathal Croke, Haley Richardson, and Hannah Riches is outstanding and the musicianship and energy they brought to the performance was infectious. The standout here, though, was drummer and musical director Mark Alfred, who outdid himself with infectious energy and commitment. Alfred added a layer of depth and complexity to the performance that truly elevated an already elevated show.

But of course, the true stars of RIVERDANCE are the Irish Dance Troupe led by Maggie Darlington, Amy-Mae Dolan, Anna Mai Fitzpatrick, Meadhbh Kennedy, Will Bryant, Fergus Fitzpatrick, and Matthew Gardiner. For this tour, they're joined by the passionate Flamenco soloist, Rocio Dusmet, Riverdance Tappers Lamont Brown and Dharmesh Patel, and The Riverdance Dervish ensemble, Elena Macovei, Stefan Mircea, Ana Turcan and Eugeniu Turcan. This company is of superior caliber. Period. They are supported by a technical team of superior quality as well. Lighting, video and LED screen is provided by PRG, and Kevin McGing, who has his work cut out for him in producing the sound for this extraordinary performance, does a perfect job of keeping all the sound together for this boldly percussive experience.

RIVERDANCE's 25th anniversary tour is an incredible joy accesible to all ages and all types that is an unforgettable evening of entertainment. A smile crept up on my face just five minutes into the show, despite my rough week, and it didn't leave my face until I fell asleep at home after the show. Go see it, even if you're a skeptic. I promise you won't be disappointed.
