World-famous astrophysicist, award-winning author, and host of FOX's Cosmos NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON helps kick off the Long Center's 2015-2016 season with An Evening with Neil deGrasse Tyson, tonight, June 18th in Dell Hall.
Tysons's extraordinary career includes Director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, appearances on The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and Real Time with Bill Maher, and host of PBS' Cosmo- A Spacetime Odyssey. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the Commission on the Future of the United Space Aerospace Industry in 2001, and in 2004 was awarded the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest civilian honor bestowed by NASA. He is also the recipient of eighteen honorary doctorates.
His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid 13123 Tyson. On the lighter side, Tyson was voted Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive by People Magazine in 2000.
