Music Doing Good presents a benefit concert at Moonlight and Memories on October 6, 2012, 6:30 pm, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Christi Center, which provides free, ongoing grief support for people adjusting to a new life after the death of a loved one. The concert will take place at Hill’s Café, 4700 S. Congress Ave., Austin, TX 78745.

The Christi Center (formerly For The Love of Christi) serves children, teens and adults who are grieving the loss of a loved one, free of charge, for as long as they need it. This non-profit has relationships with numerous community agencies, schools, criminal justice agencies, civic and service organizations, businesses, churches and other groups to help reach those who need services. Founded by Susan and Don Cox after their 20-year-old daughter, Christi, was killed by a drunk driver, The Christi Center offers peer-based, loss-specific grief support groups conducted by trained volunteers and supervised by a licensed social worker. The longevity and success of this organization is largely due to the impactful, peer model where clients want to become volunteers and “pay it forward.” Through the sharing of experiences and validation of the grieving process, individuals, families and marriages are restored to a healthy, functional level. As they move through the process in this safe, non-judgmental environment with others who understand the pain they’re feeling, clients start to regain a positive perspective on life and eventually are able to smile and laugh again. The Center also provides outreach and education on grief and issues facing the bereaved for schools, businesses, churches, community organizations and allied professionals.

Moonlight and Memories attendees will enjoy a sumptuous buffet and songs under the stars with heartfelt harmonies from the world-class core artists of Music Doing Good, a Houston-based non-profit organization whose mission is philanthropy through music. Afterwards, dance the night away to Johnny Dee's Rocket 88's.

“The Christi Center has a 25 year history of helping people heal from grief by connecting them with others who have experienced similar losses. Through that process, we help them find comfort, hope and new life after loss. We are so grateful that many of those people stay with us as volunteers and supporters to offer that same understanding and hope to those walking the grief journey behind them. Moonlight and Memories not only celebrates our success, but it increases awareness of how we can all better support those In grief,” says The Christi Center Executive Director, Cara Fox.

Music Doing Good partners with other non-profit organizations, marries song and story to put their missions to music. Through world-class concerts and meaningful outreach programs, the organization raises friends and funds for outstanding non-profits working in health, education, music and children’s causes. It is the vision of “philanthropy through music” that galvanizes a caring community to raise awareness of issues and uses cultural enrichment to stimulate support.  Music Doing Good Creative Director, David LaDuca asserts, “We feel that our mission works in tandem with The Christi Center mission in connecting people who can help and support each other. Music Doing Good is honored to help them celebrate 25 years of purposeful and necessary work. As we say, ‘Do Good. Feel Good.'."

Music Doing Good produces a distinctive concert experience that incorporates a variety of musical genres including popular music, classical, jazz, standards and even musical theater. Hard-working non-profit organizations are often challenged to find new ways to keep valued supporters engaged. Music Doing Good marries mission with music to create uniquely customized events that forge new perspectives and ignite the passion of an organization’s support base, while building like-minded audiences who are eager to help others and improve the world we share.
