Penfold Theatre, 7 Towers Theatre and Austin Scottish Rite Theater present Woman in Black October 13-30.
Audiences will join the over 7 million theatre-goers who have discovered Woman in Black as "the most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter" (Daily Telegraph, London). Currently in its 28th year on the West End, Stephen Mallatratt's haunting adaptation of Susan Hill's hair-raising ghost story comes to Austin just in time for the Halloween season.
A lawyer obsessed with a curse he believes has been cast over him and his family by the specter of a Woman in Black, engages a skeptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of moving shadows and deadly secrets.
The Daily Mail calls Woman and Black "a real theatrical spine chiller... A truly nerve shredding experience," and London's The Guardian calls it "one of British theatre's biggest and scariest hits."
The production marks the coming together of three Austin theatre companies in their first collaboration. "From the actors on stage to the director and designers, we're spoiled by a top tier creative team who understands the thrill of a good ghost story," says Penfold's Producing Artistic Director, Ryan Crowder. "And the Scottish Rite Theater is a perfect place for such a tale to unfold. With its dark wooden lobbies, antique décor and vaulted operatic stage house, you can't help imagining what waits just out of sight in The Shadows that surround you."
To make this stage thriller accessible to all, student rush tickets are available 30 minutes before each show time, and a special Halloween Industry Night is scheduled for Monday, October 30th.
A Woman in Black launches Penfold Theatre's tenth anniversary season.
