Nominated for Tony, Emmy, and Grammy awards, Lar Lubovitch has been cited by The New York Times as "one of the ten best choreographers in the world," and his New York City-based Dance Company has been called a "National Treasure" by Variety. Lar Lubovich Dance Company will perform a mixed-rep program, including a performance of Lubovitch's 2011 Crisis Variations, which features a score by UT Associate Professor in Composition Yevgeniy Sharlat. Crisis Variations will be performed to live music by UT faculty ensemble D-Tack under the direction of conductor Ransom Wilson.

In one featured work, the company will be joined by a special UT faculty ensemble in a performance of Lubovitch's 2011 Crisis Variations, which features a score by UT Associate Professor in Composition Yevgeniy Sharlat.

Founded in 1968 and not appearing in Austin since 1986, the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company has gained a reputation as one of the world's foremost modern dance companies. Lubovitch's dances are distinguished by their musicality, rhapsodic style, and sophisticated formal structures. His radiant, highly technical choreography, and deeply humanistic voice have been acclaimed throughout the world.

In Crisis Variations, Lubovitch challenges his signature approach to interpreting musical scores and creating space for an accidental relationship of music and dance. Sharlat's score is based on Franz Liszt's "Transcendental Etudes," which Lubovitch has described as "an action painting of the sensations."
