The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance announces the 2013-2014 Season! The ambitious five-performance Subscription Series brings to the stage a joy-filled Tony Award-winning musical, dramatic storytelling by a leading, contemporary playwright, a popular crime story, a fascinating reflection on history and the power of theatre, and enthralling dance by nationally renowned choreographers.
"As we celebrate the department's 75th anniversary, we are delighted to invite you to join us for our amazing 2013/14 season," explains Brant Pope, chairman of the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin. "We begin the year with the mystery thriller, Dial "M" for Murder, the classic story made famous in Alfred Hitchcock's film. At the end of our season we are excited to offer you a chance to see the Tony Award-winning, knockout musical In the Heights. Acclaimed playwright Sarah Ruhl is featured with our staging of her intriguing play Dead Man's Cell Phone, and perhaps the most important play of the season is the engaging Our Country's Good, set in the early days of the founding of Australia. We are sure you will find this season the perfect way to celebrate 75 years of great theatre and dance production."
Additional non-subscription season highlights include Fall For Dance; UTNT (UT New Theatre), curated by preeminent playwright Steven Dietz; and the premiere of Katie Bender's play The Fault.
