- Hill Country Community Theatre announces its 2017-18 season. Featuring five productions, the season includes the new musical comedy "Senior Moments", a holiday musical "A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol", the thriller/comedy "39 Steps", the comedy "The Red Velvet Cake War", and Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical "State Fair". This marks HCCT's 32nd year.

"Many plays were considered for the 2016-17 season," said Mike Rademaekers, HCCT's executive director. "The plays chosen are ones that we know our audiences will enjoy.

With three musicals and two comedies, we are keeping it light this season." HCCT opens its 2017-18 season in September with the hilarious musical comedy "Senior Moments", book by Linda Kaufman with Mark A. Lit, music and lyrics by Linda Kaufman. Growing older is filled with new realities and challenges that can be humorous at times, but difficult at others. Fun, touching, and 'spot on', "Senior Moments" explores the many facets of these new realities and challenges in a series of musical vignettes.

During December's celebrations, HCCT will produce the musical comedy "A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol", book and lyrics by Phil Olson, music by Paul Olson. It's Christmas Eve in Bunyan Bay and cantankerous bar owner Gunner gets in an argument with his wife and tells her he's skipping Christmas. He storms out and goes snowmobiling, falling through the ice and going into a coma. He comes back in a dream and he's visited by folk legend, Sven Yorgensen, who takes him on a Dickensian journey.

Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's iconic film, and the classic spy novel, "The 39 Steps", adapted by Patrick Barlow, follows in February. This thrilling, hilarious noir adventure plunges you into the world of Richard Hannay, an ordinary man forced to go on the run after aiding a mysterious woman. From the shadowy streets of 1930s London to the wild moors of Scotland and beyond, "The 39 Steps" traces Richard's madcap quest to keep government secrets out of the wrong hands. In April comes "The Red Velvet Cake War" by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. This riotously funny comedy follows three cousins as they attempt to throw a family reunion. Things spin hilariously out of control when a neighbor's pet devours everything edible, a one-eyed suitor shows up to declare his love, and a shocking, high-stakes wager is made on who can bake the best red velvet cake. As this fast-paced uproarious romp barrels toward its surprising climax, you'll wish your own family reunion was this much fun!

In July 2018, theatregoers will enjoy the classic musical Rodgers and Hammerstein's "State Fair", music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Tom Briggs and Louis Mattioli, based on the screenplay by Oscar Hammerstein II and the novel by Phil Strong. The Frake family leaves behind the routine of the farm for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons while their daughter and son find romance and heartbreak on the midway. "State Fair" is the kind of warm-hearted family entertainment only Rodgers and Hammerstein could deliver!
