Groundwork Music Project announces the We Write It We Sing It Concert, Saturday, April 27 (3:30-p.m.-5:00 p.m.) at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center (1165 Angelina Street, Austin, TX 78702). This concert event will feature songs written and performed by elementary students at Blackshear and Maplewood Elementary Schools, and co-performed with the Groundwork Music Orchestra.
Neal Kassanoff, the founder of Groundwork Music Project, along with other professional musicians, has been working with elementary students and professional musicians throughout the current school year to help them learn the fundamentals of songwriting and to create their own songs. A whimsical and imaginative cannon has emerged from the pilot year of this project, with students eager to share their efforts with the community at large.
Along with songs written by the children, the Groundwork Music Orchestra will perform material that includes songs co-written by Kassanoff and Ben Kweller, and other favorites that are part of Groundwork's educational and artistic efforts in both preschool and elementary school classrooms.
Groundwork Music Project enhances the lives of children by providing free and low cost music classes to schools with limited means. These programs provide the musical activities that are essential to healthy development across a broad spectrum: emotional, cognitive, social and more. The mission of the Groundwork Music Project is simple: to provide high quality music education prorgrams to young children who could not otherwise afford it.
This free event is sponsored in large part by the City of Austin's Cultural Arts Funding. Groundwork welcomes donations as the organization heads into its spring pledge drive.
