Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
November 11 - December 3, 2016
The Vortex, 2307 Manor Rd
Directed by Lily Wolff
Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature at which paper ignites. In Ray Bradbury's visionary parable, books are banned and firemen, far from extinguishing fires, now burn the books they find. People sleepwalk through their lives, anesthetized by drugs and interactive television shows broadcast on wall-size screens. What has brought about the destruction of books, and by extension the end of thought, is the abundance of external stimuli that saturate the mind without stimulating insight.
The Noisy Neighbors or The Little Square (Il Campiello) by Carlo Goldoni
Adapted by Richard Nelson
January 6 - 28, 2017
Trinity Street Theater, 901 Trinity St
Directed by Norman Blumensaadt
Written for the Venetian Carnival of 1756 Goldoni's comedy recounts the matrimonial scheming, gossip, and games enlivening the daily activity of a bustling but poor Venetian piazza where pandemonium reigns. The commedia-inspired play centers on four scrappy, hard-working, hard-playing families whose daily lives on a small square are interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious wealthy stranger during Carnival.
Mrs. Mannerly by Jeffrey Hatcher
March 24 - April 15, 2017
Santa Cruz Theater, 1805 E 7th St
Directed by Karen Jambon
It is 1967... the Summer of Love. But for five children on the second floor of the YMCA in Steubenville, Ohio it is the Summer of Etiquette as taught by formidable Helen Anderson Kirk, better known as "Mrs. Mannerly." Jeffrey, now a middle-aged man, takes us back through time to when he was nine years old and determined to be the first pupil in history to score a perfect mark in Mrs. Mannerly's class.
The Dresser by Ronald Harwood
June 23 -July 15, 2017
The Vortex, 2307 Manor Rd
Directed by Bob Tolaro
Aging actor manager, 'Sir', is struggling to keep a grip on his sanity and complete his 227th performance of King Lear. Despite most of the country's actors being in uniform in war torn Britain and bombs destroying theatres, the show must go on. Ensuring that it does is Norman, Sir's devoted dresser, who for sixteen years has been there to fix his wig, massage his ego, remind him of his opening lines and provide the sound effects in the storm scene.
