Texas Performing Arts to present, in partnership with KUT Music, Cristina Pato and the Migrations Band performing on Saturday, December 1st at 8:00 pm at Bass Concert Hall. After a 2011 show-stealing performance as the green-haired member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, Cristina Pato returns to the Bass Concert Stage with her Migrations Band. Hailed by the BBC as "the Galician bagpipe diva," Pato's astounding command of the instrument known as a Gaita has made her an in-demand musical powerhouse. Renowned for her dramatic performances, Pato fuses influences of Sephardic, Latin, jazz, pop, and contemporary music to create a sound and vision that is energetic, flamboyant, and virtuosic.
In 1998, Cristina Pato became the first female Gaita player to release a solo album, and has since collaborated with some of the biggest names in world, jazz, classical, and experimental music, including The Chicago Symphony, Yo-Yo Ma, The Chieftains, and the Royal Pipe Band. Ms. Pato produced and composed the soundtrack for the Spanish film El Hombre de Arena (Sony Pictures, Iroko Films, Spain).
