Breaking String Theater presents the World Premiere of Three, or the Sound of the Great Existential Nothingness, by Timothy Braun, directed by Graham Schmidt, at the Off Center, July 26th - August 17th.

In Timothy Braun's fantastical re-interpretation of Three Sisters, five characters from Chekhov's 1901 masterpiece live highly circumscribed existences in a small town in the contemporary U.S.A. Breaking String presented an early draft at Hyde Park Theatre in December of 2012, and recruited an elite creative team comprising veterans of Austin's new works community, for a brief development process. The result is a highly playful and theatrical piece in which Mr. Braun explores themes central to Chekhov's work: loneliness, the yearning for a better life, and the struggle to connect.

Breaking String's Three, or the Sound of the Great Existential Nothingness features direction by Graham Schmidt and an ensemble cast including Cami Alys (The Intergalactic Nemesis, The Rude Mechs' I've Never Been So Happy), Jeffrey Mills (The Assumption), Dawn Youngs (Circus Girl, The Dionysium, Breaking String's The Schooling of Bento Bonche), Chris Gibson (The Intergalactic Nemisis) and Gricelda Silva (Trouble Puppet Theatre's Cruel Circus, Breaking String Theater's Flying). The production also features scenic design by Ia Enstera (Breaking String Theater's STRIKE: Two plays by Yury Klavdiev, Pig Pile by Sibyl Kempson), lighting design by Steven Shirley (STRIKE, Pig Pile) costume design by Jamie Urban (Circus Girl, Flying), sound design by Buzz Moran (The Intergalactic Nemesis, The Dionysium), and production stage management by Andrew Perry (Polyanna Theatre Co., Pig Pile).

TIMOTHY BRAUN is an American writer whose plays have been presented at dozens of theaters throughout the United States, including La Mama, the Ensemble Studio Theater, Salvage Vanguard Theater, and California Institute of the Arts. His essays and other writings have been published in The New York Times, Huffington Post, Daily Kos, The Austin Chronicle, and Culturebot, among other publications. Mr. Braun received an MFA in playwriting from Columbia University in New York City and currently teaches at St. Edward's University. He is the Editor-in-Chief of New and Social Media for Fusebox Festival. For more information, please visit timothybraun.com
