BAD JEWS, Joshua Harmon's Ferocious Comedy Comes To Austin Image"There's nothing like a death in the family to bring out the worst in people." This seems to be the enduring message in Joshua Harmon's Bad Jews, a sharp, fierce comedy that questions all you know about those you love and what you really choose to believe...when you're chosen. The award-nominated play makes its Austin premiere at City Theatre, directed by Stacey Glazer, and running March 16 - April 8.

Family and faith are not always kosher. When the patriarch of a Jewish family passes away, his very different grandchildren gather together to relive, share, and remember. At odds are the annoyingly devout Daphna, a young woman who wears her Jewishness like a righteous badge of honor, and her equally self-centered cousin Liam, an entitled young man who has spent much of his life distancing himself from his cultural traditions. Liam's brother, Jonah wants to avoid confrontation, and Liam's shiska girlfriend, Melody just wants everyone to get along. When Liam declares ownership over a cherished heirloom, a battle ignites of Old Testament proportions over what their family history truly means to each of them.
